Swim Lessons

I am a little ashamed to admit that Cal was 13 months old before he started swim lessons.  I've only worked for pools and taught lessons myself for the past 15 years!  It's not that he hasn't been swimming - he loves the lake - but it is hard to find activities that fit a working parent's schedule.  After our failed attempt at Diaper Dancing this fall (the afternoon class was cancelled due to lack of enrollment), I made it a priority to sign Cal up for lessons this session.  We picked Saturdays because Billy has every other one off so he could participate too.

We have a little fishy on our hands!  He loves the water.  He will even let us go under water with him.  He doesn't quite get the concept of jumping off the side, but loves when we help him.  He can hold onto the side by himself and can even climb out if you give him a little boost.  He does not like being on his back and does everything he can to sit up and roll over when you try to have him lay back.  We'll have to practice that one!

Auto Show

I love going to the Auto Show.  There something about the bright lights and shiny cars that just makes me happy.  Billy and I went many times when we were dating and first married.  We would sit in our dream cars and our reality cars and talk about what we would get.

I was really excited to go this year with Cal.  He LOVES cars. Car was one of his first words and it is probably his most used word.  He also loves tires and steering wheels. What a perfect place for him to explore!  We went early on a Sunday morning.  The crowds were pretty light for the first few hours .  We used the stroller instead of the carrier so we could get him in and out quick and to help carry some of our stuff (coats, snacks, spare diapers).  Cal loved being able to touch the cars and got the biggest smile when he sat in the seat and played with the steering wheel.

Drinking and Driving

What happens when you drink and drive?  You crash.

What do you do when the law (aka Mom) catches you drinking and driving?  Throw away the evidence of course!

After a few weeks of tentative shuffle/fall combos, Cal is officially walking!  There is still a lot of falling down and crawling, and he ambles like a drunk sailor with a hip replacement, but - WALKING!

Playdate!

On New Year's Eve, Callahan and I drove to Holly for a playdate with the mommies and babies of the November 2010 Birth Club!  I have been talking to these women since before Cal was born on the Bump and on Facebook and a bunch of us finally had a chance to meet!
